Pushing Canada 25

THE WORLD’S FASTEST SKATER…

Blog

  • Well my friends…The Medicine Hat to Calgary push wasn’t easy due to a few days of heavy rain. Getting soaked head to toe and pushing all night will make you really appreciate the sunshine and blue skies…The sun is back out Millennium skatepark is still endlessly fun and the pizza slices are in abundance more updates to come…

    Blessings be the board

  • Well…another day in Medicine Hat due to the on going rain. Looks like it will work for the better as I wanted to check out the Med-Hat Chess Club anyways, which will be tomorrow. Here’s some photos of the sights…

    ”The Worlds Biggest Chess Set”

I was very impressed/happy to come across this. Definitely some extra points City Of Medicine Hat (just wish there were some opponents at the tables )

I have a knack for stumbling upon skateparks without even trying to find them… Crossed the bridge to see what the other side of town was like after a hefty climb up a few hundred stairs this was one of the first things I saw. This half-dish bowl a top the city was a fun time before the rain came.

  • Thank You Matthew Puddister for reaching out and conducting a lovely conversation pertaining endurance, survival, faith and much more. Keep an eye out for September’s issue which will be in Anglican Churches nation wide.

  • Live from Medicine Hat Alberta!

The vast open plains…my goodness the sheer beauty and ever changing sky formations will stay with me forever. It feels good to be back in Alberta… As I’ve been told there’s going to be a little bit of flatness left and then the mountains “magically appear on the horizon”

Calgary is only 300km away and is my most anticipated stop before the finish line (THE PLAZA VAN-CITY) Millennium skate park aka Millz (once the world’s largest skatepark) is one of my favorite places on earth to skate. Get some rest see the sights eat some pizza then back on the road!

    I love you all…

  • Much like my current endevour, way back when we were little pups coming up never could we have forecast Donovan Jones and Cephas Benson having the worlds #1 skate pod cast, being a voice in the industry and supplying now millions of skaters worldwide with an abundance of quality timeless skate content that we now depend on. Whether it’s passing the road or your sorting empties in the back of the beer store The Bunt makes the mundane wonderful.

I’m sure I’m not the only one that has people looking at me like I’ve lost my mind while Cephas’ quirky jokes/roasts and various voices have me laughing so hard I have stop, get off my board and catch my breath.

On a few occasions I almost spit out my coffee when suddenly I hear my name and the journey come up. The words of love and support from Dono and Cephas has brought me to tears.

Anthony,Burles ,D-Jones and Cephas Iove you all to bits!

Stay tuned for something “down the road” ; ) with The Bunt Gang…

Off to Little Current SK dear friends stay cool out there

  • I have a thing for 90s built skateparks. They all tend have the same look and feel to them: Giant banks/pyramids and rail/hubba obstacles that will make you scratch your head or laugh at the dimensions (often scarier than a lot of street rails)

The weathered concrete… some parks age better than others MJ’s has aged like a fine wine as the polished baby-bottom smooth terrain blew my mind. If I didn’t have to moderate my legs I would have skated flat ground for hours with little to no wear on my nose/tail. The locals were also non-stop entertainment and very friendly. Hi Rodney/Riley and the kids! going to miss ya’ll even though it’s been a couple days.

  • Well I never thought skating 70km in day would be considered “mellow”

Now that everything is flat and the shoulders have mercifully improved it seemed like after a couple episodes of The Bunt and some water/food stops I arrived from Regina to MJ much quicker than I thought I would. Moose Jaw is a lovely, quiet, clean, friendly little city. The skate park here is straight out of the mid 90s and it’s keeping me here an extra day as I’m about to go back and skate it right after I finish this update! here’s some glimpses of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan… enjoy!

Trying to make it to town before nightfall…

I haven’t skated a big handrail in years yet all of us skaters notice these giant gems, Nyjah or Foy… I think of these skaters when I see rails like this.

This is just one side of the MJ local park this taco/wave you rarely see in modern park design. The coat hanger copping and mellow gradual transitions are right up my alley “puttering”

All thanks to a very kind local skater and a new friend for bringing me to the sacred ground…

    Hi Grayson!

Moose Jaw is a very green city…

Well that’s all for now dear friends and family, going to get a proper shot of the MJ skate park and give my little breakdown next

stay tuned and stay hydrated out there!

  • As I’ve been blurring through town after town city after city there has yet to be one of them in which people whom were struggling with serious life issues and disadvantages has not been visible…Toronto of course is no exception.

Holy Trinity… a beacon of light in TO’s downtown core has been historically steeped in social justice for many a decade. We now run a Community Hub, providing meals, clothing, harm reduction supplies, programs, and community for the vulnerable. This my dear friends is the front lines of the dedicated individuals who choose to tip the scale in favor of compassion and support for those who need it most.

  • I’ve been drawing a lot between bouts of pushing. “The Sage Knight Loves You…” I made this for cousin Rosalyn and family back in Winnipeg.

The Kenora skatepark near goldens hour’s end. I had a blast here and made some new friends… Hi Jarred ! thanks a million for the massive board upgrade

The breakfast nook of my dreams back in Thunder Bay. Thanks again Vanessa and family.

The seemingly endless road… somewhere between Vermillion Bay and Kenora

  • Thunder Bay, Thunder Trucks, Thunder Struck…

The day after I did 125km to get to Brandon MB I had felt like I had been struck by lightning… Thankfully Brandon though spread out is still rather small. I did as little puttering around as possible and bagged a lot of rest by the coming dawn. The following morning I awoke with great gratitude, my body and legs were back to nearly 100%. Nothing against Brandon but I found my self once again skating in circles and the skatepark there is glorious yet I can’t really partake and that can be torturous.

One can only drink so many cups of coffee and eat so many slices of pizza. I played some games of chess with the locals to clear my mind and pass the day, afterwards I reminded my self that I have a a nation to cross.

Now the day is transitioning to sunset and it’s time for me to skate into it. I go to the Tim Hortons where I first arrived 2 nights prior in the wee hours. I charge up the phone and cue some Nine Club &The Bunt eps as these podcasts keep me great company while I go on auto pilot for hours.

I notice the shoulders going out of Brandon are not the medium/decent grade on which I had arrived it’s darn near stuck together gravel that means kilometers of walking : (my least favorite) I let out a long sigh as I mentally prepare for at least three days of what I call “stop and go” (skating/walking and resting) I’m walking a dirt road running along the side of The #1 West.

The dirt road comes to an end and turns left merging into The #1West right before I merge my self to the shoulder a large black SUV rides up beside me also about to merge. I think nothing of it and there’s a moment we all have when crossing in front of a vehicle where I’m thinking “is the driver watching me or just waiting for a gap?” I’m already set to just go behind the car and make my way as I don’t have time for games.

Suddenly The window rolls down “you going to Regina?” that’s indeed the exact location I was headed I had already made a deal with my self that if somebody goes out of there way to pick me up and I have a good feeling about that person I will accept. I still have a couple thousand KMs ahead of me and in a split second for the sake of my body I say ”yes”

Jeremy Zach and Steven (excuse if I’ve botched spellings) of Thunderstruck agriculture products thank you so much for the kind gesture and hilarious/interesting banter to pass the road and getting me a little bit ahead of schedule.

Big City-little City, farming business- skateboarding business, black-white, checkers-chess… kindness is kindness. Bless all those in the world who see kindness prevail every single day. I’m going to be hangin’ round Regina for a couple days… off to the Tiki Room and CBC Regina I go…
