Pushing Canada 26 (endevour of completion)

THE WORLD’S FASTEST SKATER…

Blog

  • Thunder Bay, Thunder Trucks, Thunder Struck…

The day after I did 125km to get to Brandon MB I had felt like I had been struck by lightning… Thankfully Brandon though spread out is still rather small. I did as little puttering around as possible and bagged a lot of rest by the coming dawn. The following morning I awoke with great gratitude, my body and legs were back to nearly 100%. Nothing against Brandon but I found my self once again skating in circles and the skatepark there is glorious yet I can’t really partake and that can be torturous.

One can only drink so many cups of coffee and eat so many slices of pizza. I played some games of chess with the locals to clear my mind and pass the day, afterwards I reminded my self that I have a a nation to cross.

Now the day is transitioning to sunset and it’s time for me to skate into it. I go to the Tim Hortons where I first arrived 2 nights prior in the wee hours. I charge up the phone and cue some Nine Club &The Bunt eps as these podcasts keep me great company while I go on auto pilot for hours.

I notice the shoulders going out of Brandon are not the medium/decent grade on which I had arrived it’s darn near stuck together gravel that means kilometers of walking : (my least favorite) I let out a long sigh as I mentally prepare for at least three days of what I call “stop and go” (skating/walking and resting) I’m walking a dirt road running along the side of The #1 West.

The dirt road comes to an end and turns left merging into The #1West right before I merge my self to the shoulder a large black SUV rides up beside me also about to merge. I think nothing of it and there’s a moment we all have when crossing in front of a vehicle where I’m thinking “is the driver watching me or just waiting for a gap?” I’m already set to just go behind the car and make my way as I don’t have time for games.

Suddenly The window rolls down “you going to Regina?” that’s indeed the exact location I was headed I had already made a deal with my self that if somebody goes out of there way to pick me up and I have a good feeling about that person I will accept. I still have a couple thousand KMs ahead of me and in a split second for the sake of my body I say ”yes”

Jeremy Zach and Steven (excuse if I’ve botched spellings) of Thunderstruck agriculture products thank you so much for the kind gesture and hilarious/interesting banter to pass the road and getting me a little bit ahead of schedule.

Big City-little City, farming business- skateboarding business, black-white, checkers-chess… kindness is kindness. Bless all those in the world who see kindness prevail every single day. I’m going to be hangin’ round Regina for a couple days… off to the Tiki Room and CBC Regina I go…

  • I arrived downtown after a lovely stay with my cousins. Rested showered, shaved, laundry did and full of gratitude it’s now time to visit Canada’s 2nd oldest skate shop SK8 SKATES. (something I’ve been wanting to do for a very long time)

Even with the directions I had been given I found that once again I’m skating in circles… Winnipeg’s main street seems to want to bend and turn and change all over the city. So I go back to the FORKS Skate Plaza (another life long skate destination I can now cross off) it’s early in the day there’s only 1 skater at the park he’s rolling about and takes notice of me as soon I enter the park. I give a friendly wave and a smile he returns the gesture I approach him and ask “how I can get to SK8 SKATES” ”hmmm…” he looks in the direction of the shop and pauses ”you know what? I’ll just take you there it’s not far” not even an exchange of names and I have an escort to the shop by one of the the locals (my new friend Matt standing to my left)

After a quick cruise through the bustling downtown core of The Peg we arrive. It’s everything I thought it would be, core to the core with an elegant modern clean touch. One of the first faces I see inside is FANE SMEALL (standing to my right) a very recognizable face if you’re tapped in to Canadian skateboarding. Fane had 50-50ed the Commerce indoor 20, something that 100s of Toronto skateboarders myself included had only dreamed of. We get to some scene talk and all I said was that the treads on my pushing shoe were beginning to bald while talking about the wears of the road and such.

A moment later Fane walks out from the back holding a Vans shoe box containing Curren Caples new pro shoe (hanging from my shoulders) an enormous upgrade from what I had before. I know it’s been talked about at length but there’s simply few groups on this planet that act the way skateboarders do to one another. When I see a skateboarder making their way down the street I want the very best for them and would do much of the same as Matt and Fane did without hesitation. As good ol’ “Dubs” (Jeron Wilson) had Dubbed on the Nine Club “skaters supporting skaters” indeed.

    Much love and good fortune…

  • As one spends many many many hours pushing on the side of the road one has a lot of opportunity to think. I’ve come to realize starting a non profit off the ground while doing the leg work pushing across the country might be a little too much.

We’re putting a can on the youth fund. and placing the focus on the journey itself and of course The Holy Trinity Outreach Hub which is very near and dear to my heart.

Here’s the link where you can donate to the HT Hub https://sites.google.com/view/sk8board-embarking-on-faith/home

and of course you can send tidings to support the journey via e- transfer to Thefriendlycustodian11@hotmail.com

More Updates coming soon much love

  • Live from Winnipeg Manitoba! this is a famous handrail right in the downtown core I remember the 5 foot 12 video intro where a local legend boardslides this thing! very happy to be a little past the halfway mark now. This is an amazing city indeed.

  • Well we’ve done it…breaking through the Ontario Border took a lot of endurance patience and strength. The border rest station is a very cool place with the grounds illuminated by black lights huge parking lots filled with silent sleeping trucks and few cars and my self with my trusty board there was a nice clean little indoor lobby where the washrooms are that I utilized to get away from the mosquitoes to get some rest before I continued on towards Falcon Lake and then Winnipeg

  • Live from Kakabeka falls! The Ian Digby and Noah Tynes show with our co host The Devine Spirit. Tonight’s guest: The power source of Thunder Bay pouring out 50 cubic meters of water per second. Musical guest: David Bowie from the 5th dimension.

  • Live from Kenora Ontario!

From Vermillion Bay to Kenora Ontario had been one of the hardest challenges I had been through in a very long time. Also friends/family/supporters ”Noah’s Canteen” is running very low at current moment. Don’t forget about your Sagely friend on the road anything sent via E-Transfer to Thefriendlycustodian11@hotmail.com would be tremendously appreciated.

We are also working on an official GoFundMe for the Youth Skateboarding Fund and will be giving it a brand new name

And of course we encourage all to send tidings to HolyTrinity. To

    Blessings…
